Tuition and Financial Aid

Dual Enrollment makes good financial sense for families with students who intend to pursue a two- or four-year degree, saving time and money.

Tuition

Dual enrollment students are responsible for ensuring payment of all HGTC tuition and textbook costs unless otherwise directed by your high school counselor or administration. If applicable, tuition payment is due upon receipt of HGTC bill mailed after the semester begins. Bills for any balance due will be mailed to the student鈥檚 address on file 6-8 weeks after the semester begins. Dual Enrollment students can disregard all other college wide dates regarding payment deadlines.

All HGTC tuition and fees are subject to change without prior notification.

Financial Aid

SC Lottery Tuition Assistance (LTA)

High school students taking dual enrollment classes may qualify for SC Lottery Tuition Assistance (LTA). This program helps lower the cost of tuition.

To qualify, students must:

  • Be a South Carolina resident for at least one year
  • Be enrolled in at least two classes (6 credit hours) each semester

LTA is not based on family income. Receiving LTA will not reduce LIFE or Palmetto Fellows scholarships after high school graduation.

Grades earned in dual enrollment classes do count toward your college GPA. These grades can affect your chance to receive future scholarships.

South Carolina Workforce Industry Needs Scholarship (SC WINS)

The SC WINS Scholarship helps pay tuition for South Carolina residents taking college classes.

To qualify, students must:

  • Be a South Carolina resident
  • Be enrolled in 3 or more credit hours during the academic year
  • Not have tuition fully paid by the school district or another grant

Students must also complete an SC WINS affidavit and submit it through the myHGTC portal.

For students in Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) programs:

  • SC WINS can only be used for tuition
  • It cannot be used to buy textbooks

Residency Requirement

Only students classified as South Carolina residents for tuition purposes are eligible, as determined by guidelines established by South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

Students who are:

  • Out-of-state, or
  • Classified as unknown residency

are not eligible and must pay all out-of-state tuition costs.

Important Note: The grades of college courses completed in high school will affect your class standing and/or GPA and, therefore, will affect your eligibility for LIFE and other scholarships following graduation.
