Important HGTC Update: No Changes to College Operations for Monday (9/29/25)
As of this morning, HGTC leadership has determined there will be no changes to College operations for Monday, September 29. This decision is based on what we currently know, and we ask that you remain alert to any messages should conditions change and require us to alter operations. We will continue to closely monitor the system currently offshore.
Tropical Depression Nine continues to organize and is likely to become a tropical storm soon. The latest guidance has shifted the projected track farther south and east, keeping the center well offshore from the South Carolina coast. This shift reduces the risk for our area, with the strongest winds expected to remain offshore and rainfall projections decreasing for inland areas.
While the overall outlook appears more favorable, the system is still expected to strengthen as it approaches the coast. One of the primary concerns remains the potential for coastal flooding and storm surge especially if the system stalls near the shoreline for 24 hours or more on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Please keep an eye on this system, as there are still some concerns from the National Hurricane Center on when the system will actually turn east. As the system moves north, the wind field will expand and the rain bands will push further out in front of the system. Local forecasts are likely to change as the system moves closer.
HGTC鈥檚 Emergency Management Team remains in close communication with local and state partners, including Horry and Georgetown County Emergency Management, local school districts, and Coastal Carolina University. We will continue to monitor the storm closely and share updates as conditions evolve.
Any future operational changes will be communicated promptly through HGTC email, the HGTC Advisory Page, the myHGTC portal, HGTC social media platforms, and local media outlets.
Thank you for staying alert and prepared as we continue to track this system.
