How to Apply for Financial Aid
The financial aid process can take 6-8 weeks to finalize, so it is important that you apply early. It is necessary to re-apply every school year in attendance (a school year consists of Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters). Applying is easy, just follow the steps below:
First, create an FSA ID.
An FSA ID is a username and password used to log in to the U.S Department of Education websites and to electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents. If you are a dependent student, at least one parent will also need to create an FSA ID to sign the FAFSA. Create an .
Second, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Complete your In order for HGTC to receive your FAFSA you must include our school code 004925 on your application. To simplify filling out the FAFSA, gather important documents such as federal tax returns, W-2s from each job worked, and other documentation of income you received for the 2023 Tax Year.
Be sure to apply as soon as possible. Dependent students will need their parent鈥檚 information as well. Generally, you are considered a dependent student if you are under the age of 24, unmarried, do not have dependents, and are not a veteran.
Finally, complete any additional requirements
Upon completion of the FAFSA, students must check their MyHGTC accounts to determine if all FAFSA requirements are met. If a student has any outstanding requirements, financial aid awards are delayed. MyHGTC accounts provide a list of student requirements, account balances, and more.
