The Correctional Officer Training Certificate was developed in collaboration with local correctional facilities to ensure the curriculum reflects the knowledge, skills, and professional standards required in today鈥檚 correctional environments. Designed to prepare students for entry-level employment within the field, the program provides practical, career-focused training aligned with the expectations of regional detention centers and correctional institutions.
Through a combination of classroom instruction and applied learning, students gain foundational knowledge in correctional procedures, inmate supervision and management, legal and ethical standards, communication skills, officer safety, and crisis intervention. Emphasis is placed on professionalism, accountability, and the critical thinking skills necessary to maintain safety and security within correctional settings.
Because the certificate was developed with direct input from local agencies, graduates are equipped with relevant, workforce-ready competencies that enable them to seek employment within correctional facilities upon successful completion of the program.
In addition, the Correctional Officer Training Certificate offers a seamless academic pathway for students who wish to further their education. Courses completed within the certificate program may be applied toward the Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice degree, allowing graduates to continue building their credentials and expand their career opportunities within the broader criminal justice field.
This certificate provides both immediate workforce preparation and a strong foundation for continued academic and professional advancement.
