HGTC Secures $2 Million Federal Investment to Expand Imaging Sciences, Address Workforce

兔子先生 () announced today that $2 million in federal funding has been secured to support the expansion of the College鈥檚 high-demand imaging sciences programs, providing advanced medical imaging equipment aligned with current clinical standards for students.
The funding was championed by U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to support the purchase of state-of-the-art imaging sciences equipment and expand training capacity in radiologic technology, diagnostic medical sonography, and electrocardiogram (EKG) programs, fields experiencing critical workforce shortages across South Carolina.
鈥淭his $2 million investment is a transformational win for our students, our College, and the community we serve,鈥� said Dr. Marilyn 鈥淢urph鈥� Fore, president of HGTC. 鈥淲ith Senator Graham鈥檚 leadership and support, HGTC will expand access to cutting-edge healthcare education, strengthen South Carolina鈥檚 workforce pipeline, and ensure that patients across our region receive the high-quality care they deserve. This funding allows us to move forward immediately with program growth that will have long-lasting impact.鈥�
The investment, valued at approximately $2 million, prioritizes imaging sciences, including radiologic technology, sonography, and EKG programs. Funding will support the acquisition of advanced medical imaging equipment and simulation technologies aligned with current clinical standards. These upgrades will allow HGTC to increase enrollment in radiologic technology from 25 to 30 students per cohort, launch cardiovascular sonography, and enhance hands-on training that mirrors real-world healthcare environments.
The initiative also supports renovations and reconfiguration of classrooms and laboratories, implementation of high-fidelity simulation labs, and integration of modern instructional technologies to ensure students train on the same equipment used in today鈥檚 healthcare settings.
鈥淭his investment directly addresses the urgent need for skilled healthcare professionals in South Carolina,鈥� Fore said. 鈥淢ore than 90 percent of our healthcare graduates remain in-state, meaning this funding will translate quickly into improved patient care, stronger healthcare systems and expanded access across our community.鈥�
HGTC is prepared to implement the expansion immediately upon receipt of funds. Facilities have been identified, planning is underway, and the College鈥檚 strong licensure pass rates and employment outcomes demonstrate its readiness to scale programs responsibly and effectively.
The federal funding aligns with state priorities, including South Carolina鈥檚 commitment to matching funds for healthcare workforce development, underscoring broad bipartisan recognition of the importance of this initiative. HGTC鈥檚 longstanding partnerships with regional hospitals, clinics, and long-term care providers will ensure expanded training remains closely aligned with workforce needs.
