鈥淥ur Early Care and Teacher Education programs are preparing the next generation of educators who will shape young lives and strengthen our communities,鈥 said Dr. Marilyn 鈥淢urph鈥 Fore, HGTC President. 鈥淭his Open House is a wonderful opportunity for future students to discover how they can turn their passion for children and learning into a rewarding career.鈥

HGTC鈥檚 Associate in Applied Science in Early Care and Education equips students with the skills to create nurturing, language-rich, and inquiry-based environments for young learners. Graduates are qualified to work in a wide range of settings, including childcare centers, Head Start programs, after-school care, summer camps, and private or public schools.

Attendees can also learn about T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood庐 South Carolina, a scholarship program that provides financial assistance to those working in childcare to pursue coursework in Early Care and Education with little to no cost.

For those whose career goal is teaching in a K-12 setting, HGTC鈥檚 Teacher Education degree is the perfect first step. Students gain the tools needed to help learners of all ages grow and succeed in school. After completing this degree, graduates may work in education as paraprofessionals or transfer to a bachelor鈥檚 degree program.

HGTC offers 2+2 transfer agreements with several senior institutions, including:

  • Coastal Carolina University: Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Level, Physical, Secondary, and Special Education
  • Lander University: Early Childhood Education (online)
  • University of South Carolina Columbia: Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle Level Education
  • USC Palmetto College: Elementary Education (online)

In addition, the HGTC/CCU partnership has been designated an SC CREATE Center, which provides cost-free coursework for full-time South Carolina public and charter school employees seeking to complete add-on, alternative, or initial licensure in special education and related service areas. Qualified recipients can earn their HGTC Teacher Education degree and transfer seamlessly into CCU鈥檚 Bachelor of Arts in Special Education, fully online.

Teachers remain in high demand in South Carolina. Eligible Teacher Education students may qualify for the South Carolina Workforce Industry Needs Scholarship (SC WINS), as well as potential student loan forgiveness through the South Carolina Teachers Loan Program. HGTC also offers PRAXIS preparation courses (EDU 102) to help students prepare for professional advancement.
