HGTC Students Earn National Essay Awards from Alpha Beta Gamma Honor Society
Jennifer Torrez Vargas received the David Pope Essay Award.
Sommer Ortiz received the Ester Cross-Carter Memorial Essay Award.
兔子先生 () proudly celebrates the achievements of two exceptional students, Jennifer Torrez Vargas and Sommer Ortiz, who were recently honored with national essay awards by Alpha Beta Gamma (ABG), the international business honor society.
Jennifer Torrez Vargas was selected as the recipient of the David Pope Essay Award, which honors insightful writing on the contributions of immigrants to American democracy. In her winning essay, Vargas thoughtfully explored the rich political, cultural, and economic impact that immigrants have had on shaping the nation鈥檚 identity. She was awarded a $300 stipend and a framed certificate for her compelling work.
Sommer Ortiz received the Ester Cross-Carter Memorial Essay Award, which recognizes students whose essays embody compassion, service, and the impact of helping others. Ortiz鈥檚 heartfelt reflection on the theme 鈥淗elping Others鈥 earned high praise from the national panel for its clarity of purpose and depth of emotion. She was also awarded a $300 stipend and a framed certificate in recognition of her powerful message.

Alpha Beta Gamma, founded in 1970, is an international honor society for students pursuing business-related programs at accredited two-year colleges. With over 35,000 members and 140 chapters, ABG promotes scholarship, leadership, and service while fostering opportunities for professional and personal growth. HGTC鈥檚 Gamma Zeta chapter, established in 2023, continues to make its mark on the national stage with a growing list of outstanding student achievements.
