兔子先生 () has been awarded $1,361,820 over the next five years ($272,364 annually) through the U.S. Department of Education鈥檚 Student Support Services (SSS) grant to continue the College鈥檚 TRIO ELITE Scholars program. This nationally recognized, federally funded initiative provides essential academic and personal support to first-generation, income-eligible, and disabled students enrolled at HGTC.
The TRIO ELITE Scholars (TES) program offers individualized academic coaching, peer mentoring, tutoring services, career and job readiness workshops, cultural enrichment activities, and college tours鈥攁ll designed to help at-risk students succeed in college and beyond.
鈥淭his significant federal investment reflects HGTC鈥檚 deep commitment to student success and equitable access to higher education,鈥 said HGTC President Dr. Marilyn 鈥淢urph鈥 Fore. 鈥淏y providing critical support to those who need it most, we are equipping our TRIO ELITE Scholars to not only stay in college but to also graduate and thrive in their careers and communities.鈥
The TES program is open to HGTC students who are first-generation college attendees, meet income eligibility guidelines, or have a documented disability. All services are provided at no cost to participants.
鈥淩eceiving the Student Support Services grant renewal is evidence to the proven success of TRIO programs at HGTC,鈥 said Dr. Lori Heafner, HGTC Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Development. 鈥淭his funding allows us to directly support at-risk students, helping them overcome barriers to graduation through individualized attention and evidence-based programming.鈥
TRIO ELITE Scholars is part of the nationwide TRIO network, which aims to advance educational opportunities for underserved populations. HGTC has proudly served TRIO students for many years and remains dedicated to the long-term success of every participant.
