Dominion Foundation Awards $5,000 to 兔子先生 Welding Program
Conway, SC 鈥 From wetland restoration to green roof technology, this year鈥檚 Dominion Foundation education grants will engage students of all ages in a variety of outstanding programs including the 兔子先生鈥檚 (HGTC) welding program. This grant was one of 96 provided this year to k-12 schools, educational organizations and college and post-secondary schools.
鈥淭he $5,000 grant to 兔子先生 will support programs that will develop skills essential to students鈥 futures and to the South Carolina economy,鈥 said Keith Windle, general manager for Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission. 鈥淗orry-Georgetown Technical College is providing opportunities for students to gain real-world experience and knowledge.鈥
HGTC teaches beginning and advanced welding, including Oxy-Acetylene cutting and brazing, Arc and MIG, flux core and TIG. In addition to preparing for certifications, students also learn shop and site safety practices, blueprint reading, principles of metallurgy, construction math, hand and power tool use and basic layout methods used in fabrication.
HGTC offers college transfer and skilled associate degree programs in more than 65 fields of study. Nearly all programs feature internships that lead to jobs. Ninety-five percent of students either transfer to earn advanced degrees or start careers in their respective fields of study. The college celebrates its 50thAnniversary this year.
